Com The Water’s Edge, os Oi Va Voi assinam o seu regresso mais maduro, coeso e emocionalmente generoso até à data. O álbum não se limita a prolongar a sonoridade multicultural que os definiu desde o início, mas expande-a e centra-a em transformar a dor em beleza, num processo mais aberto ao mundo e com sonoridades marcadamente mais atuais, ainda que sem perder as suas roots.
Desde “Sad Dance”, tema de abertura inspirado no terramoto de 2023 na Turquia e na Síria, percebemos que este disco nasce de um lugar de perda e reconstrução.
The Water’s Edge é um título simbólico. Remete ao ritual judaico de tashlich: o gesto de lançar simbolicamente os pecados nas águas, para começar de novo. E essa ideia de purificação emocional atravessa as nove faixas do álbum.
Atravessando géneros e geografias, como apresentaram desde o seu seminal álbum de 2003: «Laughter Through Tears», os Oi Va Voi estão entre a tradição klezmer, o folclore dos Balcãs, a pop alternativa e as electrónicas meditativas.
