[Worth Listening to] Gaspar Claus – Désir des astres

Depois de vários anos marcados por colaborações com nomes como Bryce Dessner, Sufjan Stevens, Rone ou Matt Elliott, Gaspar Claus, filho do guitarrista flamenco Pedro Soler, prepara-se para lançar Cells, o seu novo álbum, com edição marcada para setembro. O disco surge cinco anos depois de Tancade.

O primeiro avanço, “Désir des astres”, revela desde logo a direção emocional do projeto. A composição nasceu originalmente para um documentário, mas acabou por ficar de fora da versão final. Em vez de abandonar a ideia, Claus decidiu regressar-lhe, transformando-a numa peça que parece expandir constantemente a sua própria gravidade.


Este tema move-se num território onde o violoncelo deixa de ser apenas instrumento para se tornar paisagem emocional profunda. Segundo o universo conceptual apresentado por Gaspar Claus, “désir” partilha raízes etimológicas com palavras ligadas ao cosmos e ao ato de olhar para as estrelas. O desejo surge assim associado à procura de algo que parecia quase inalcançável e profundamente improvável. Não como uma carência simples, mas como uma força que coloca o ser humano em movimento.

Nesse sentido, “Désir des astres” parece funcionar como uma composição sobre a tensão entre aquilo que existe e aquilo que falta. O violoncelo carrega uma dimensão profundamente humana, quase física, enquanto os elementos processados digitalmente criam uma sensação de espaço e imensidão.

A melancolia não surge aqui apenas como uma ferida aberta, mas como um estado de presença. Gaspar Claus transforma essa melancolia numa espécie de meditação sonora sobre o ser, onde cada vibração do violoncelo parece iluminar zonas da consciência que raramente encontram linguagem, mas que, quando tal acontece, abalam todos os alicerces.
