[Worth Listening to] Girls In Hawaii – Goddess

Formados no início dos anos 2000, os belgas Girls In Hawaii construíram uma identidade particularmente reconhecível dentro do indie europeu. Quase uma década depois de “Nocturne”, de 2017, o regresso ganha agora forma definitiva com “Eldorado”, quinto álbum da banda, mas antes disso chega “Goddess”.

E talvez seja difícil imaginar uma canção mais apropriada para este momento. “Goddess” fala sobre inspiração. Ou, mais precisamente, sobre aquilo que acontece quando ela não aparece.

Lionel Vancauwenberge e Antoine Wielemans conhecem bem aquele espaço desconfortável onde uma música ainda não existe, mas deveria existir e as tentativas acumulam-se, as ideias começam e morrem e aquilo que deveria ser criação transforma-se progressivamente em dúvida.

Há também alguma ironia em uma banda que esteve tanto tempo sem editar um novo álbum regressar com uma música sobre a dificuldade de fazer nascer uma música.

“Goddess” pode ser escutada como uma canção sobre bloqueio criativo, mas também como uma pequena reflexão sobre recomeçar depois de deixarmos de saber exatamente como fazê-lo. E, nesse sentido, aproxima-se inevitavelmente da própria história recente dos Girls In Hawaii, que regressam não como quem pretende apagar os anos de silêncio, mas como quem decidiu aceitá-los como parte do caminho.
